Agency Nursing…

"The Good, the Bad, the Beautiful”

Agency nursing is a relatively unknown and misunderstood field that is growing in need each and every day. With staffing shortages affecting medical facilities across the nation, there is an increased need for skilled health professionals to fill the void. In response, staffing agencies have rapidly increased! According to the American Staffing Association, there are approximately 39,000 medical staffing offices in the US. Just imagine, all those agencies and all those healthcare professional and yet the field remains mysterious.

Agency nursing is the only position I’ve ever found where you truly choose your schedule. The agency gives you a list of open shifts and you decide which ones you’d like to work. Don’t want to work weekends? Don’t pick up weekend shifts. Don’t like night shift? Don’t choose those openings. Want to take 3 weeks off? Go for it! Your schedule is truly yours and nobody asks questions about why you’ll take one shift over another or assisting with other shifts.

THE GOOD...

➢ Pay

➢ Facility Choice

Never Boring

THE BAD...

THE BEAUTIFUL...

Message From The CEO

Brittney Gaffney-Butler

I have a long-standing history in healthcare as I started in medical billing, and after a few career transitions within the medical field I later became a registered nurse. In 2020, I noticed the staffing shortage in healthcare had taken a turn for the worse and I made a decision to be a part of the solution, which was at that time to become a traveling nurse. I started traveling taking on contract after contract to attempt to fill what void I could fill in the healthcare field and as a travel nurse, the experience with travel agencies proved to have its own set of challenges. It was then that I decided to help solve the problem and Healthy Travel Staffing Agency was developed. As Satya Nadella once said, “It’s so critical for leaders not to freak people out, but to give them air cover to solve the real problem”.

Here at Healthy Travel Staffing Agency, our mission, vision, core values and cultures all define what we do and who we are. Healthy Travel Staffing Agency values integrity, excellence, transparency, and accountability. We work as a team to make our clients, candidates, and ourselves successful. We do this by honoring all commitments and by being a dedicated staffing provider and agency of choice through a culture that cares for and encourages the growth and development of all those we serve. We strive on making a difference in the healthcare field, by staffing facilities with quality staff! Here at Healthy Travel Staffing Agency honesty, ethics, and integrity guide our behavior and decisions. We are changing people, processes, and perceptions in healthcare the healthy way and we look forward to working with you!

Beginning Your Savings Fitness Plan

Take a look at your current financial resources, as these affect your ability to reach your goals, protect yourself from potential financial crises, and cover various life events. Consider this the first step of the financial planning process as you begin your savings fitness plan.

Calculate Your Net Worth

Calculating your net worth isn’t as difficult as it might sound. Your net worth is simply the total value of what you own, your assets, minus what you owe — your liabilities. It’s a snapshot of your financial health.

First, add up the

approximate value of all of your assets. This includes personal possessions,

vehicles, homes, checking and savings accounts, and the cash value of any life insurance policies you may have. Include the current value of your investments, such as stocks, real estate, certificates of deposit, retirement accounts, IRAs and the current value of any pensions you have.

Now add up your liabilities: the remaining mortgage on your home, credit card debt, taxes due on the profits of your investments (if you cashed them in) and any other outstanding bills. Subtract your liabilities from your assets. Do you have more assets than liabilities? Or the other way around? Your aim is to create a positive net worth, and you want it to grow each year. Your net worth is part of what you will draw on to pay for your financial goals and retirement. Having a strong net worth will also help you through financial crises. Review and recalculate your net worth annually.

August is National Minority Donor Awareness Month

August is National Minority Donor Awareness Month (NMDAM), when we call attention to the gap between the number of organ donors and the number of African Americans, Latinx, and Asian Americans who need life-saving organs and tissues. This is an important conversation to have, as important today as it was 25 years ago when NMDAM was first recognized as a single week in August. Throughout the 50-year history of Gift of Life Michigan, collaborating with communities of color to break down barriers to transplantation has been an important part of our ongoing mission to honor life through donation. More recently, we have strengthened our focus on education about organ and tissue donation in the many multiethnic communities in our great state through our Let’s Talk initiative. We have reached out to and shared stories within those communities, listened to their concerns, engaged in dialogue, and tried to dispel common myths and misconceptions. Still, we know more needs to be done.

Wellness Corner

It's officially corn season, so throw some corn on the cob onto the grill. Get creative and add your favorite ingredients from tomato and watermelon to avocado, radish, and Feta. This salad works beautifully as a side dish or even a garnish for dishes like grilled chicken or shrimp skewers.

How to make grilled corn salad

  • Shuck fresh corn and brush kernels with olive oil.

  • Sprinkle with salt.

  • Add to the grill, cover and cook until lightly charred on each side.

  • When the roasted corn is cool enough to handle, cut the kernels off the cob.

  • In a large bowl combine corn, tomatoes, cucumbers, onions, bell pepper, radishes, avocado, and green onions.

  • In a small bowl add crema, lime zest, lime juice, honey, cilantro, serrano pepper, black pepper, salt, and garlic, then toss to combine.
